How do you keep track of your followers. What they say, who they retweet, and what is important to them? There are a number of ways to track your followers, but the best way is to categorize your followers by those categories that are important to you.

Tracking followers is crucial to your success on Twitter, because thousands of Twitter followers can be a daunting task for any person.

There are a few ways to categorize them:

1. Categorize them through the lists on Twitter itself. Learn to separate people based upon different likes and dislikes. It is a quick way to do this. The one drawback to this, is the that lists are public, so everyone will know how you categorize your followers. Additionally, you are not able to retweet from there, so as long as you are OK with these  two drawbacks it is easy and convenient for you to communicate with your followers.

2. Use third party programs, such as Tweetdeck or Hootsuite to help you track your followers on as many different screens as you would like to set up. Designed like the twitter lists, these private lists can be organized by selecting different people or specific words and hashtags to find out what is going on not only with your premier followers, but also with your industry or areas of interest.

Tracking your followers can be challenging, but if you organize them now, it will go a long way in helping you utilize Twitter effectively and enjoyably.
