When did you start using social networking? About 4 years ago

How did you start learning about social networking platforms? In-person event, classes, webinars, on the job experience? When I decided to start doing real estate, I figured what better way to establish contacts than getting on Facebook. I quickly learned, it’s not what you do online, it’s how active you are off line. That’s when I learned the true value of social networking!

What is your favorite social networking site for business? Why? Twitter. Hands down. It is not the most professional site, but it is the most personal. Once you establish a personal connection with someone, the easier it is to do business with them.

Do you have a specific strategy that you use to be more effective when using social networking? Don’t sell. Offer to help. Whether it be connections, referrals, or giving them business, the more you give, the more you will get.

How has it changed your business? I have found so much success and value in social networking that it has become a passion of mine.

What was your biggest mistake in social networking? Thinking it could all be done online.

What would you tell people starting out in social networking to focus on today? Take time to listen and observe. You’ll be amazed what you can learn.

What direction do you see social networking going in the future? Unfortunately, I see mass marketing bringing their push marketing tactics to social networking. The channels and consumers will adapt to demand an open user exchange and dialogue.
