This is your Social Networking Power Profiles profile of the week. Every week through Social Networking Power Profiles we profile people using social networking successfully. This week I thought we could take a look at a network marketer who is all over Foursquare, Michael Giese. Every time I am on Facebook I see him getting a new foursquare mayor spot. It is crazy how good he is at Foursquare.

Brief Bio (no more than 300 characters)

Two years ago I realized my kids were growing up without me in their lives because I was always working on my contracting company.  I had to make a change.  I assessed my skills and decided on network marketing.  I could spend all of my time making money, but then what would I pay to get that time back.

I wanted to be a pilot but I failed the colorblindness part of my medical so I quit college after 2 years.  Since then, I’ve been broke and I’ve been rich.  Rich is much better, but nothing compares to owning my own time.  I love spending time with my family and being outdoors.

When did you start using social networking?

February 2008

How did you get started learning about social networking platforms?

I took a class.  Learning from a professional is always the best way to learn.

Did you attend in-person events, classes, or webinars to learn more?

Mostly in person class.  I am not a huge fan of webinars.

What is your favorite social networking site for business? Why?

Foursquare seems to be the best sight for me right now.  Twitter is showing a lot of potential in the near future.

How do you use social networking for your business?

I use it to build relationships.

How has it changed your business?

I started using social media and my business only a few months apart.  However, social media has definitely changed the way I communicate.

What was your biggest mistake in social networking?

I tweeted too much information about a prospect on twitter.

What would you tell people starting out in social networking to focus on?

Build relationships.  It’s not what you know and it’s not who you know.  It’s about who knows and likes you.

Do you have a specific strategy that you use to be more effective when using social networking?

I have just started one.  I will let you know in a month if it will go into full implementation.

What direction do you see social networking going in the future?

Up.   More accepted and more users.

Do you know someone who is great at using social networking for their business? Then let us know, so we can include them in our Social Networking Power Profiles.
