In this week’s social networking minute we will be discussing how to use the Facebook username feature for additional traffic to your Facebook business page. Before that, however, you need to know how to actually set up a Facebook username, so watch the video and see how in one minute flat I have a new username for my new Fan Page for Market Lately.
Social Networking Minute: Facebook Username
3 Quick Facebook Username Strategies
1. Now that you have a simplified username (eg. www.facebook.com/marketlately) start plastering tactfully all over your literatures and websites. Make it easy for anyone to use.
2. Have a link on your site for people to click through to. If you have a Facebook button all the better, but now a quick and dirty link will help you as well.
3. Direct more people to your fan page from Twitter. Twitter is limited to 140 characters. Who wants to spend all their characters on a link?
This is just the start of what you can be doing with your new Facebook username. Next week I will be showing you something that will just blow you away! In the meantime, hope you have enjoyed your social networking minute creating Facebook usernames for Facebook business pages.
Hi Andy,
Perfect timing. I am just about to do this for A Life of Light on Facebook. It is ever so much easier to tell people what your FB page is when it does have a whole string of random looking symbols after it.
I really like these little videos full of great tips to make life online a bit easier. You have a lot of knowledge and I really appreciate your being willing to share it.
Thank you so much!
I completely agree with you that a random string of numbers is just not appealing.
Andy
Hi Andy, very useful tips as always 🙂
A username is definitely easier to remember than a string of numbers
Hello Andy!
Thank you another great tip, delivered in under a minute. Funny how so much in life can be conveyed in very little time. But getting back to the topic at hand, I agree it’s smart to setup a username for your fan page that’s easy for people to remember. And please, please make it easy for people who want to tweet you.
Some people put their name in the fan page name, some don’t. I’m not entirely sure that one is better than the other. I think it’s better to be consistent with your branding across the board. What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers!
Srinvas,
Appreciate the kudos!
I believe that people should have a page for each really, really important brand name. Then they do not have to worry about someone hijacking it from them later. With that being said, this recent username was for my new company. It only made sense to have a username for this ready and waiting.
Andy
Its better to have a username rather than having your profile ID, aside from being neat, it is easy to remember
Hey Andy – really enjoy your 1 minute videos 🙂
Just curious – I know FB changes on a regular basis so this may no longer be the case, but I was able to change my fan page name. What I learned at the time was that as long as you had less than 100 likes you could change the name – once you got over 100 likes it was permanent. Again, this may no longer be possible, but might be worth checking out.
Marquita,
Thanks! When I signed up they specifically stated that you could not change the username ever. I remember that as well, so it must have been a recent change.
Andy
Thank you Andy! I was struggling with this concept just this past week and in one minute, you have given me “The Answer” I am so grateful to you because I am technology challenged lol.
Great Post, Will be back soon,
Donna
Donna,
Glad to be of assistance!
Andy
