You might think this is crazy, but when I first started blogging I thought I was supposed to be that buttoned up, stats talking, big word marketer. The idea was that my teeth were supposed to gleam so much whiteness and brightness you would think I was a knight rescuing corporations from the big, bad giant.

Slight problem! That is just not me! I don’t talk like a stiff from the corporate world. Maybe that is because I have never really been my best self as a stiffie in the corporate world.

Somehow, it was only when I started to talk like myself that I started building my business online.

Go figure!

This is the point, where I hear the internal objections from people. “It is just too much to tell people what I think,” or my favorite “Andy, people do not want to know what I have to say.”

Sounds to me, like you took a long trip on the bull train where you heard a lot of bull $%!* from corporate executives trying to be smart.

I get it…being yourself can be challenging. It requires you to be strong enough in your belief about yourself that you do not have to put on an act when talking to prospects, partners, and clients.

Kinda tough huh!

Well that is what it takes to make it in business, you have to be tough. Not like the tough and rumble beat the crap out of someone tough. Instead, you have to be tough enough to have a good persona that people find charming enough to follow you.

Therefore, I have a bit of a bull meter to help you determine what is yourself.

  • Do you have the tendency….tooooo….fallll….asleeep when you talk about something on Google Hangouts?
  • Does your internal voice shout NOOOOOOOOOOOO at the top of it’s internal lungs when you speak on LinkedIn groups?
  • Do you frequently fear what would happen if you said one wrong word on Twitter?

Then you my friend have rung up a bit of a bull! Tis ok!

All you need to do is take stock, and start talking liketh a real person! Note: For some odd reason, my real voice has a bit of weird Shakespearean/Renaissance Faire quality to it.

When you do, you will be amazed at the response you receive. Get started today, by letting me know how you know in the comments that your are talking like yourself. What is the coolest thing you do when you are yourself on social media?
