Got a little jumpy today when I saw some of my biggest Twitter accounts had no followers. With little advance notice, Twitter found a bug in the system and in order to fix it they had to minimize the follower and following count down to zero. It felt for a minute or two like I might have been suspended.
What a weird feeling to think that they have suspended your account, and you have no reason why. So, I did what any rational Twitter user would do. I checked out Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter account @aplusk and noticed that he did not have any followers as well. That made me feel a little better, because he has over 4 million followers and I am a little under 34,000 followers.
I then checked Twitter’s Twitter account and found that they posted a tweet about an hour ago that the site’s follower system was down. In their words:
We identified and resolved a bug that permitted a user to “force” other users to follow them. We’re now working to rollback all abuse of the bug that took place. Follower/following numbers are currently at 0; we’re aware and this too should shortly be resolved.
So, do not panic and realize that you are not suspended. Wanted to give my readers the early scoop on what is happening.
Blog looks really good mate, keep it up! Inspires me to keep building a following of my own.
