Let’s cover LinkedIn Basics today as part of our social networking basics week. This is the third out of the four major social networks that we will be covering this week. Earlier this week we covered Facebook Basics & Twitter Basics and tomorrow will be Google+ Basics. Back to LinkedIn basics.

LinkedIn Basics Action Steps
- Make sure that your profile is 100% complete. When everything is finished you have a better chance of having invitations accepted and people wanting to connect with you. The picture is crucial, because without it people believe you are not serious about LinkedIn.
- Be active on a number of different groups. You are maxed at 50 groups, so play around with the groups that you like best. Then choose 3 or 4 active groups that you can “work the room” with so to speak.
- Do your best to reach out to either 5 new or current connections everyday. I know this gets to be a challenge even for me. However, it is definitely rewarding in the long term.

And the LinkedIn Basics Action Steps, they’re absolutely great!

Nice intro to LinkedIn Andy, any Social or other media site taking time out to fill in properly goes a million miles and saves you heaps of time. Have a notepad with the relevant details normally requested and copy and paste! No short cuts…
Joan,
Thanks! Absolutely agree with you. People need to spend time on the basics and make sure it is done correctly. Most people have a lot of the information ready, they just have to put it together in one place.

Nice job Andy… I’d love to talk to you about LinkedIn best practices. Completing your profile fully is the first step. The next is to make sure you show up in search results, then stand out from the crowd to be picked from the list. (Like your headline by the way.)
Shoot me a note. Let’s connect. Until then, Rock on!
Lori,
Just sent you a message.
Andy
