Let’s continue with Social Networking 101 week, we will now cover LinkedIn 101.
I have said this before, and will say it again, I always feel like wearing a suit when going on LinkedIn. Maybe that is why I wanted to really go over the basics of LinkedIn this morning. So, I can wear a suit as I work from home. Eh, maybe not? Maybe I just wanted to to go through LinkedIn 101 and help you understand how to set up a LinkedIn profile that will engage your target market.
That is it! By Golly!
That sounds and feels a lot better than the first answer, so let us begin, so you can engage your LinkedIn audience!
LinkedIn 101
LinkedIn 101 Review
As you can tell from the review, I place a lot of importance in LinkedIn 101 on the LinkedIn profile. The reason is that this is the place where prospects and potential employers will decide whether they want to keep or axe you. Therefore, you need to give them compelling reasons to keep you.
Therefore, I want to know what you will be doing to keep people interested in your LinkedIn profile. Share your updates with us in the comment section below, so I know that you have graduated LinkedIn 101.
Hi Andy,
I really enjoyed your video tutorial and clear, easy steps to setting up our profile on LinkedIn and thanks for the motivation. I need to get back into my site to clean up and update it; it has been neglected but you’ve spurred me to do something about it!
Loren,
Glad to spur you into action!
Andy
Hey Andy,
I like your tutorial. I have had a LinkIn account since2008 and never realized the power of the site. I will go and update my account with your excellent explanation of how to do the step. This is something that I find frustrating with new format, it gets time consuming and I don’t have the right information to figure it out on my own. Keep on with the great information!
Joyce,
What are you finding frustrating about in LinkedIn right now?
Andy
Did you really wear a suit today? That’s so cute! I know what you mean though, LinkedIn feels very professional and it feels wrong to be on it without my “adult” clothes on… Not that that stops me from staying in my PJs too long once in a while, though. 😉
~Laurie
Laurie,
Of course not! I really do need adult clothes. At least that is what my wife tells me. I am generally wearing my rattiest clothes and feeling halfway bad about doing. Halfway bad, mind you!
Andy
LinkedIn is one of my favorite social networking site aside from facebook and twitter. This is really a great help for my online business, it helps me get higher traffic for my site.
Tony,
It is funny I do not get a ton of website traffic from LinkedIn, but I get more business from the site than Twitter and maybe Facebook combined.
Andy
Hum … okay, I’ll admit it, I’ve yet to take Linkedin seriously. I’ve tried to be focused and joined targeted groups but so far have been less than impressed because the bulk of the activity seems to revolve around “you like my FB page and I’ll like yours,” and my list of connections continues to grow with virtually no participation from me other than my blog posts. The vew times I tried to get serious about networking I was bombarded with pitches … I haven’t given up yet, but Linkedin has slide down to the lower half of my priority list.
Marquita,
If you are looking for value, try LinkedIn answers. It is a great place to find qualified prospects and also make quality connections.
Andy
Hi Andy,
Really enjoyed the video tutorial and you did a great job on your profile.
LinkedIn is definitely powerful and has huge potential for those that are really looking to make connections for networking offline, as you can really target your market.
This truly is a professional network and I really have to spend more time on LinkedIn and network more with those Super Connectors that can really open some doors.
I will also be tweaking my profile with some of the cool ideas that your mentioned.
Keep Schmoozing,
Marc
Marc,
LinkedIn is a great profile builder. Glad you enjoyed the video. Looking forward to your new profile.
Andy
These are some fantastic tips. Since i’ve started using Linkdein I’ve had a lot more contact with my professional coworkers.
Joseph,
That is great that you have been able to stay in contact with your professional coworkers.
Andy
Andy, I’ve been a member of LinkedIn but done nothing within it, I am just now starting to take a look at doing so. Setting up a profile, connecting with the people I know. But I have always been less interested in this network than in some other ones. I think the perception that it is basically there to find a job or to have conversation with people in traditional office positions – not so much for internet marketers. And to the extent that I thought internet marketers used it, I have to agree with some of the comments above – just expected to receive pitches and not make real connections. I’m willing to take a look at it in a more serious way and I appreciate your insights and resources here for using this network effectively. – Rob
Rob,
You would be amazed at how many internet marketers, network marketers, and entrepreneurs. At the same point, for your uses you might also find Warrior Forum a place of interest for you.
Andy
Andy,
LinkedIn is a cool social media/networking site but it’s not one of my favorites. It can be pretty dry sometimes but I still make great use of it.
I mainly use LinkedIn Answers as a way to help others as well as share my knowledge and expertise.
LinkedIn answers is pretty cool, but it is a great one to one networking site. You would be surprised what you can do with that site.
Andy,
I am sooooo impressed. Did you use Camtasia to shoot this video? It was over 7 minutes which I consider long in most cases, but the time just flew by because the video was so well done and so informative. Great tips on adding website that doesnt’t say company website, adding twitter and the blog feed, Wow! I do lots of video tutorials about WordPress and the Thesis Theme and I love to see other people that do high quality videos, too!
Thanks so much!
Jupiter Jim
Jim,
Thank you so much! Yes it was Camtasia!
Your videos on WordPress are terrific! I do not watch your Thesis themes, because I use profit themes, but your posts are great!

Belinda,
Thanks! The super connectors on this site are huge. They can definitely open some doors.
