I recently reached 5,000 friends on Facebook. This is the point when Facebook prohibits you to add more friends. In honor of me reaching this goal. I am hosting a “No More Friends” Friends networking event on June 8th at the Double Tree in Arlington Heights, IL. Additionally, I want to include some posts this week to discuss how to use Facebook for your business.
By now, most people you know probably use Facebook. It is one of the most popular Websites in the world with millions of users logging in to the site everyday. Your very own Facebook profile is like an extended and online version of yourself so make sure it’s presented well. Here are the following steps to get you started:
a) Introduce yourself.
Build your profile and update it every once in awhile. Enter all the information that you want to share to your Facebook friends. Add a more personal touch by adding your favorite movies, music, etc. All of this can be done by clicking the Info tab on your profile and then click Edit. Make sure you save any changes you’ve done.
b) A picture is worth a thousand words.
Post pictures of yourself, your friends, your interests, etc. Share pictures from different events like a vacation or a birthday party. It’s a good way to show others your life, experiences, hobbies, and so much more, which will help them to get to know you better. Facebook makes it easy for you to upload and organize your photos. Just click the Photos tab found on the left side of the homepage, and start creating albums.
c) Send updates.
Let people know what’s on your mind. The shortest way is to post a status update, just as simple as that. If you want to post a link to a Website, a photo, video, or an event, you can do so by clicking their respective icons just below the status box and follow the directions. You can also click Notes found on the left side of the homepage if you want to write a long entry. Perhaps you may want to start a blog. If you already have a blog from another Website, you can connect it to Facebook. All your entries will be integrated as your notes, and your Facebook friends will be able to see them.
d) Communication is key.
There are so many things you can do on Facebook. You can add and remove people as your friends, or even block them. You can also find friends on Facebook and even invite those who haven’t joined the social-networking site yet. You can leave comments on your friends’ wall, status updates, photos, etc. Facebook also has a wide variety of fan pages and groups you can choose to join. You can also leave comments on there which can be a good way to find a lot of people who have the same interests as you. For those friends whom you hang out with, you may also want to use Facebook to invite your friends for an event. For a more private approach, you can always send your friends a message. It’s really easy to keep in touch with friends and possibly make new ones on Facebook.
Facebook continually adds different kinds of applications and tools for Facebook users to use so be on the lookout for something that might interest you and make your Facebook experience even better.
