Yes, my site is blacked out today because of SOPA/PIPA and yes, we are holding a webinar at noon. There I said it!
I know this might be a little confusing, but when you come to our site today we are blacking out the site when you first come in with instructions on how to fight SOPA and PIPA. As a blogger I feel that without destroying this law this site could not exist in the near future. Plus the recovering political junkie in me sees this as a way to fight for freedom.
Possibly one of the best quotes ever was from Edmund Burke, who said, “The only thing needed for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing.” I hopes I am a good man, and believe that without stopping this we are leaving are freedoms at the door to corruption.

At the same time, I have to respect everyone who signed up for the webinar Market Lately is having at noon. Note: The 7 PM webinar was cancelled. While it is great to fight for what you believe, part of that includes standing up for what you believe is right. That means honoring those who want to learn more about social networking.
Since we are still holding the webinar today, please feel free to join us by signing up at Eventbrite and we will send you the details shortly.
Also, please note that we will be holding another webinar next Wednesday (that will not conflict with the blackout). Details will be out shortly.
Thanks again for your understanding! We look forward to seeing everyone at the webinar later today.
Andy
I have done a lot of calling and writing to various congressmen. In my state, the congressman was recently re-districted in favor of more votes for the democratic party. However, I still wrote to Shimkus and called because he helped expedite my ex-husbands alien residency papers to 1/3 the time it takes without help. I have been telling people about SOPA/PIPA, and explaining to those offline but not as internet savvy how it could effect them. I even gave out pamphlets I made and also left some with the local area libraries in my city and 3 others.
The White House has made their case that they will not support this, but who knows what will happen.
Nile,
Thanks for your participation! This bill should go away.
Andy
Honestly, this bill is worthless. This will do no good to anyone. No one will really benefit from it. It will just be a big problem for us if they will approve it. By the way, what could we contribute to help stop the passing of this bill?
Speaking to the choir! The best way to contribute is to call your local rep and let them know how crappy the bill is. However, with the recent changes it looks like everything is dead for the moment.
