Social Networking Power Profiles: James Budd

I am bringing back for a week the social networking power profiles that I used to do every week. There was someone that I felt that I need to include in here. Not, so much just for the social networking, but for everything else that he does. That is my coach James Budd.

James and I have been working with each other for 16 months now. He is one of the smartest guys that I know and I am honored that I get to talk with someone of his caliber on a regular basis.

His business coaching clients and campaigns have appeared on Oprah, Fast company, MTV etc. and have worked with everyone from Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton, to the Virgin Galactic Launch of Spaceship II…as well as helping entrepreneurs like me grow my empire!

People are always talking about coaches and how they can be a valuable asset to your business. In the next few paragraphs I want to do my best to give you a sense of how he has helped my business.

First, James has been a business owner for over 20 years. He knows what I am going through. Not only because he has been there himself, but he has also helped hundreds of other clients with their challenges as well. His toolbox of different ways to help your business from his Pocket of Peace exercises to the voices in the council is always allowing me to overcome my own limitations to do better.

Second, he is brilliant with copy. As an internet marketer I am always writing, which means that I need someone to bounce an idea off of with my work. His storehouse of knowledge is amazing as he gives me a few strategy tips here or there that make huge differences. For example, after I had finished 28 Cent Articles he gently went through and showed me some small changes that created huge results. My challenge is getting inside my customers mind. This is something that I have found is easier to do with his help.

Third, he is there for me. When I did an interview on WGN earlier this year (Check out the pic above), James went above and beyond and actually met me at the studio to help calm my nerves before the interview. He also helped me prepare for the interview when the person who was initially going to work with me dropped out of sight. I was able to clearly and convincingly go on the air, because of the help he gave me that was so far beyond what he actually needed to do.

I could give you examples like this for days about how awesome he has been in helping me grow my business, but I would rather you just get a chance to talk to the man himself. My recommendation is that you go onto his website Visionfire Coaching and learn more about him. Also check out his site for a free session via phone available where in the world. It is well worth the time and money invested working with James.

To Find Out About The Blogging Myth Just Ask Kim

Deep in the corn fields of Carlyle, IL lies a blogging myth larger than life! This is a blogging myth built on trust and hard work. One where brains and execution come together in a single point of coolness!

For those of you unaware of this blogging myth of unbelievable talent than look no further than Kim Castleberry. She is a Jill-of-All-Trades and looking to share her knowledge about social networking, affiliate marketing, and relationship building on her site Just-Ask-Kim.com.

Her posts are some of the most detailed and informative posts out there on a bevy of social media, affiliate marketing, and marketing in general to convey her worthy of the rare “Must Read” category every week on my list of blogs to check out.

Additionally, as a member of the TSA community, she has been a fantastic leader who has been able to instill a sense of community and purpose into the group, based on her understanding of how different communities work. As she puts it on her blog, “So much of what is pivotal in social media all comes back to small town business behavior… inter-dependencies of businesses, name recognition, looking out for the community, allowing the community to look out for you, building a community that becomes like family, and having quite a lot of our lives known by everyone around us in genuine authenticity.”

She has taken this small business community idea and melded it with her experience as a mass multi-player online gamer. One of the things that has always enticed me about games is that they are a quick role play of how you live out life in fast forward. We see what happens as you live out life in hours and days versus months and years.

When we grow up (OK! When every one else grows up, because I know I am still a Toy’s “R” Us Kid), we can then put those practices into play. We understand how to build a city, because we did mock build ups on Sim City. Create a business empire, because we did that on Civilization 2 or Empire Earth. Or create a community of like-minded people, because we did it before on a MMOG.

That is where Kim’s talent’s come in. She has built the real relationships before, and now is taking those skills into the business world to share with everyone ready to build true relationships for internet marketing success.

So who is the blogging myth of legend, Just Ask Kim.

The time has come to show someone who is using social networking successfully in their business through the Social Networking Power Profiles series. This week I wanted to showcase someone who is just starting to use social networking, and already beginning to see the results: Ebe Osaigbovo. Ebe is a financial advisor with Wealth Guru U. When did you start using social networking? 1 month ago

How did you start learning about social networking platforms? In-person event, classes, webinars, on the job experience? I learned from not living in a hole, Haha. j/p. I learned mostly from peers.

What is your favorite social networking site for business? Why?

I love twitter for business because it is very easy to find your target audience, connect with them and stay connected with them.

Do you have a specific strategy that you use to be more effective when using social networking? Yes I use a strategy that Andy Nathan shared with his network through his blog. I like to call it targeted following. You will understand what it is if you ask Andy or see his blog post.

How has it changed your business? I have gained almost 1200 followers in 1 month and that continues to grow, with very little time spent, about 3 hours/week and at no cost.

What was your biggest mistake in social networking? Not starting sooner! (to use an appropriate cliche)

What would you tell people starting out in social networking to focus on today? Educating themselves on how to use it most effectively

What direction do you see social networking going in the future? I see it as important as 1 day, companies requiring job applicants to submit access to their social profiles for review before hiring people.  I see it becoming an essential component to actively participating in society. Not just for recreational use.

Thanks Ebe for that awesome insight into how you use social networking for your business!

If you know anyone who uses social networking successfully, please let us know on Twitter @andynathan. We are looking for additional Social Networking Power Profiles.

When did you start using social networking? Three years ago this summer.

How did you start learning about social networking platforms? In-person event, classes, webinars, on the job experience? In person event / on the job experience.

What is your favorite social networking site for business? Why? My blog lifeoftheandyman.blogspot.com – the links back to the site help my websites google ranking.

Do you have a specific strategy that you use to be more effective when using social networking? My blog has been the most effective way to tell specific stories about what is new and happening in the store.  Facebook is also an effective tool for releasing new products.

How has it changed your business? Given Illinois Nut the ability to feature our latest creations and our new product lines in an inexpensive way to reach the 400 plus people who follow us.

What was your biggest mistake in social networking? When we first started we hired a college student to tweet and blog for us.  I was not approving her posts and gave her free reign. She posted an inappropriate tweet that caused a backlash. As a result I needed to personally send out emails and make phone calls to do damage control. The lesson learned was that people were reading our post and that I needed to have an active roll in what was being posted.

What would you tell people starting out in social networking to focus on today? Don’t try to learn how to do it yourself. Hire an expert to teach you it will save a lot of time on the learning curve.

What direction do you see social networking going in the future? Not sure. Keep developing the blog, as well as facebooking and tweeting.   Will wait to see what the next developing trend / social network is and work on ridding that wave.

I hope you now have dreams of carmel and chocolate swirling through your head. If you are interested in us doing a social networking power profiles please tweet me @andynathan.
